What are makerspaces?

According to CNN, makerspaces are creative spaces where students can gather, discover, and create using hands-on exploration. These makerspaces help make students more enthusiastic about school.

Within the makerspace, students can learn how to think critically and develop problem-solving skills. Makerspaces are most often associated with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education. They help students practice skills using imagination, innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

As Ontario’s elementary schools added makerspaces, their kids began to discover and explore new innovations, such as digital circuits, virtual reality and programmable robots. Teachers in all those participating schools stated that the students became more engaged and motivated when they were in makerspaces.
