Learning and Bonding With Robots. Is It a Good idea?

Sophia and Kuri have brought much controversy around the benefits and drawbacks of themselves. One particular debate over legitimacy of allowing humans to bond with robots. There are a lot of points showing how bonding with robots can be very useful for education and teaching kids.

We are definitely at a transition point in human-robot interactions and this precedent has been marked by the introduction of robotic teaching assistants at preschools dealing with special needs kids. And studies have found this experimentation to be a big success.         

With coding robots for kids,  kids who have special needs are reportedly acted a lot better in social situations. They have also retained a lot more information that they were taught. It's because the robot’s ability to make kids with special needs more comfortable. Firstly, research shows that special needs kids respond well to technology in general. Robots are also appealing to them because robots are less intimidating, infinitely patient, and highly customized to adapt to any children's specific needs. Additionally, those children are known to have difficulty maintaining eye contact with a human. However,it is not the case when they interact with robots. Thus, they are able to pay better attention to robot teachers rather than human . All in all, robots are definitely helpful in a special needs classroom… But what about regular students ,how do coding robots for kids work?

Although we haven’t seen testing of robot bonding in a traditional classroom yet, there are some things that robotics would be able to offer that a normal teacher wouldn’t be able to on their own.

Coding robots for kids are very useful when teaching coding and programming. Though not used very much, robotics allow students to get a hands-on experience on the effects of their code which can inspire creativity and curiosity.

Bonding can take the possible benefits offered by programmable robotics one step further. This bond promotes quality work and dedication because students now care about the robots they are working on.  Simply learning code turns into an experience that will impact their lives. Of course there are many cons to introducing coding robots for kids bonding in education but in the end we must remember that we're building robots that are not replacing people but are helping in new ways to improve children's learning.
